B Logistics, a provider of transport and logistics solutions, is using the secure cloud infrastructure Oracle SuperCluster T5-8 for its BiiNG project (B Logistics ict infrastructure Next Generation). The solution enables the company to create a reliable and powerful infrastructure for its databases and application servers. In addition, Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance is deployed for storage and Oracle Platinum Services for patching and upgrading the environment. Migration was carried out with Oracle GoldenGate. With these solutions, the reliability, scalability, flexibility and availability of the infrastructure are ensured.

B Logistics offers rail transport and logistics services throughout Europe. Earlier, railway manager Infrabel took care of managing B Logistics’ IT systems. In 2014, Infrabel terminated this service. Consequently, B Logistics decided to set up an in-house infrastructure for all of its applications.

A proof of concept with real data showed a direct performance improvement of forty percent. After further tuning and adding the Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance even better results were achieved.

The team used Oracle GoldenGate for migrating data between Infrabel and B Logistics. The company had to migrate the two most critical applications, including the Cargo Information System, with minimal downtime. The Cargo Information System contains orders, fees and transport documentation and is used to track and trace goods. Minimal downtime was essential for B Logistics as it risks fines when a train cannot leave due to missing transport documents.
